Topics of Interest

Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Human Computer Interaction (HCI), User Modelling, Visualisation of spatio-temporal data,
Personalisation of spatial data

Research Description

My research focuses on determining implicit patterns in user interests, specifically in relation to spatial data. I am interested in the visualisation, and automated analysis of user interactions when browsing spatial data, to gain an insight into their semantic intentions. The user's intentions act as a proxy for the construction of a detailed individual user model describing their interests and preferences. User models allow for the filtering of information returned to the user, this improves map personalisation engines by reducing information overload for the user, and providing an insight into users' interests for the developer.

Technologies I use on a daily basis include; Java, Oracle Spatial, SQL, XML, HTML, J2ME

Background

Prior to commencing my PhD in 2004, I graduated from a BA in computer science in UCD with first class honours (2004). I also studied geography as part of my BA.
