Biography
Eoin received his Bachelor of Arts in Computer
Science and Geography, and a PhD in Computer Science from
University College Dublin, Ireland. His PhD focused on the implicit interpretation of user's interests and intentions based on their mouse movements while browsing a digital map. He subsequently took up a one year position as a postdoctoral fellow
at the National Centre for Geocomputaion at the National University of Ireland Maynooth. Here he extended his research into user interactions with Location Based
Services, as part of the StratAG
(Strategic Research in Advanced Geotechnologies) project.
He is currently employed at the European Commission JRC on a 3 year postdoctoral researcher's grant. He works as the GIS and spatial data expert on the FishPopTrace project which is concerned with the (mapping of the) structure and traceability of marine fish populations.
Technologies Employed Java, Javascript, XML, SQL, PHP, Ext, GeoExt, LaTeX, image editing software, proprietary and non-proprietary GIS desktop and web-based applications
Non-academic InterestsKayaking, 5-aside soccer, snowboarding, languages, geography, digital media arts, communication, culture and people
