Biography

Eoin is currently employed at the European Commission JRC on a 3 year postdoctoral researcher's grant. He works as the GIS and spatial data expert in the FIsheries Genetics Group. Working on a number of projects (listed below), including the FishPopTrace project which is concerned with the (mapping of the) structure and traceability of marine fish populations. His responsibilities in this role are wide-ranging. Foremost in terms of visibility are his development of the map browser on the Fisheries Genetics website, the website itself, FishPopTrace related website development, content and map browser, and the papers published based on his research while at the JRC (see below).

He received his Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science and Geography, and a PhD in Computer Science from University College Dublin, Ireland. His PhD focused on the implicit interpretation of user's interests and intentions based on their mouse movements while browsing a digital map.

He subsequently took up a one year position as a postdoctoral fellow at the National Centre for Geocomputaion at the National University of Ireland Maynooth. Here he extended his research into user interactions with Location Based Services, as part of the StratAG (Strategic Research in Advanced Geotechnologies) project.
